What to expect when you go see an infertility doctor?
Tazaor asked:
i am going to go see an infertility doctor next month and was wondering what to expect when I go there. The reason I have the appt is that I am always late by a month or sometimes 2 so it is very difficult to determine when I ovalute and being that I am so late I have very few chances to get pregnant in a year. Has anyone been to one of these appts and can let me know what to expect? They said it is a 40 minute appt.

where are you going to have it done?
I went to a fertility specialist and the doctor was very mean and rude they do a physical and ask alot of questions
It’s not bad at all. You’ll meet the Dr. and have a little talk. They most likely will take blood to see where your hormones stand. They might even do a ultrasound of your overies to see if you have any cysts, check your uterus for fribroids, utrine size, etc., to possibly start you on the infertility meds if that is what is decided and your hormones are at the right place. These meds will regulate you while your on them. They force more eggs to mature and than your given more drugs later in the cycle to make you release them on time. IF you are put the on the drugs, you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks in your month.
After so many days (determined by the Dr.) you go back for blood work and ultrasounds for them to measure how high your hormones are going and the size of the eggs your maturing. They readjust your medication by doing this. In a normal cycle which you will have doing this, you can expect to visit them anywhere between 3 to 5 visits a month. Some Dr.’s require more visits than others.
Ask question, enjoy this a little. Remember your paying for this and it’s not cheap at all. I loved to see the screen on the ultra sound and always asked them to tilt it my way as they were measuring each folicule.
Don’t get super disappointed if your not pregnant in the first month. Anyone I know that has done this never got pregnant in the first month. I bet many do but, I never meet anyone yet. Maybe our bodies just need to get used to all of this and it can be very stressful.
Here’s some fun triva for you. The infertility drugs I took years ago listed how they were made. It actually said (I’m not lying) it came from post menapausal nuns ****** in a vat. Just try to picture that one! :O) I keep picturing steep stairs going up to a huge brown vat.
Good Luck
Sorry spell check isn’t working and I’m not a fantastic speller.
My sis went to one and her doctor was not mean and rude
luck of the draw I suppose. The usually do a physical (yuck) and talk about the options. They are much more likely to give you infertility aids if you are over or close to 35. Other factors include how long you have been trying, what kind of birth control you have been on (what you describe is exactly what’s going on with my sis-in-law because of the patch[Otho-evra]) it would be pretty common from the shot too (depo-provera) nasty stuff, I and all of my friends that were on it had huge issues. off now, went to the patch, much better and now off of that, and prego. my husband and I would never recommend anyone to go on the shot. Too many side effects. My sis had been trying for over a year and had not gotten prego and she is only 20! she is now (got prego 3 months after me – what fun!) and because it was taking so long, they weren’t in a rush to give it to her, but were willing and left the decision up to her.
Hi , I’m sorry to read about what you’re going through! ((HUGS)) I used to have the same thing happen to me. I researched this product called ovulex, it regulated my periods , so that they come every month now! I only took it for a month! I went to my doctor who did blood work and ultrasounds of my reproductive organs and he saw no problems and said that I am very healthy! Go figure! Please whatever you do try some prayer and something natural to help, because those infertility drugs have a lot of nasty side effects and can cause more problems than you already have! Try this , this is what I added to my diet after I stopped taking ovulex: fish oil with Omega3&6 , vitaminC&E,calcium supplements, like Caltrate, Vitex 3 times a dayand Centrum vitamins.Adding exercise 3 or 4 times a week at least 30 minutes a day helps also, along with fruits and veggies. I also have some sites that you can research to see if they offer some things that can help you and hubby: tryingtoconceive.com, fertilityformulas.com, fertilaid.com , and fertilityblend.com I hope this information helps you in your journey trying to conceive! Good luck , God bless and looooooooooots of baby dust to you ! If you have any more questions about any of this info I gave you please feel free to contact me anytime!
Well, it depends on what your issues are. I went for years to conceive my two children and different things were done. The first appointment, though, he will take a history, talk about your concerns (ovulation, etc.), probably do a physical and an ultrasound to see if he can see eggs that didn’t drop, etc. he may also do blood work, but maybe not on the first visit. He will discuss your option, which will probably be clomid to regulate your ovulation. Good luck!
