What are some causes of infertility (in a female)?

Ok First I just want to say that I am only 19 years old and do NOT plan on getting pregnant for at least another 5 years. Anyway, a family friend (who is in her mid thirties) just found out she is infertile and has tried almost all options, and she is really depressed about it.
