I am seeing a gynecologist for an exam and to discuss infertility, what will they do on the first visit?

I decided not to see a specialist yet, so what can a normal gyno do?

Your gyno may refer you to specialist. I would imagine the first visit would be an exam, and then lots of questions about your family and your sexual history.

Nothing to be worried about, im sure you’ll be just fine :)

If you are going to the OBGYN to discuss the fact that you have been trying to get pregnant and haven’t yet, she/he will ask you and your partner all types of questions including frequency of your sexual contact, if either of you are on any medications, your past periods…what are the like in flow and length of time per month, etc. The OB may take some blood to test your hormone levels. She/He may recommend that your partner’s ***** be tested as well. Once your OB has gathered all of this information and the test results have been read then you might be sent to an infertility specialist. (and that is a whole ‘nother question!) Bring your partner with you to this appointment so that you both are on the same page from the start!

    Good Luck!

Basic pelvic exam, pap smear if you have not had one in the past year, test for chlamydia, and gonorrhea. He/she will order some blood work. Some tests can be done at anytime, others, such as hormone levels, will need to be done around CD 3, progesterone levels, CD 21. If you have been tracking your cycles, take all of that information with you. My OB/GYN also ordered a trans vaginal ultrasound and a ***** analysis on my husband. Good luck
